Welcome,
to the Ilford Group page.
We are a geographic group as part of the CFDN registered charity, dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities and their carers of all faiths and none.
This wonderful charity has been in existence since 1962
Our mission is to provide a supportive community for individuals living with disabilities and their families through a range of exciting events and activities.
Our charitable activities are run by volunteers, who are dedicated to keeping our community strong and vibrant. From our regular weekly centres, swimming evenings and family discos, bi-weekly pub group for adults, family BBQ's, seaside coach trips, adventure days for outdoor learning and much more, we offer a diverse range of events to suit everyone's interests.
The Ilford Group is a sub-group of CFDN and supports our members locally.
At the CFDN, we believe that everyone deserves to feel included and part of a supportive community.
Our charity is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve, and we rely on our amazing volunteers to help us achieve our mission.

What The Group Gets Up To
The Ilford Group has a friendly and active community of members and volunteers, with regular opportunities to meet, socialise and enjoy time together. At the heart of the group is the Wednesday Club, which provides a regular welcoming space for friendship, music, crafts, activities and community support. Members can come together, catch up with friends, take part in activities and enjoy being part of a supportive local community.
Throughout the year, the group also organises a varied programme of events and trips, including holidays to Butlins, seaside coach trips, themed and movie nights, family BBQs, discos, parties and other social activities. These events are an important part of what the group offers, giving disabled members and their carers opportunities to build friendships, enjoy new experiences and spend time together in a relaxed and inclusive environment.
When you become a member of CFDN, you will usually be affiliated with your local group, but you can also access eligible events, activities and services taking place across the wider charity. Please see below for further information about some of the regular activities and events offered by the Ilford Group.
Weekly Wednesday Club
The weekly Wednesday Club is run by our volunteers to enable younger and older adults over 18 the ability to socialise in a safe and supportive environment within the community. It runs weekly and has attracted a good number of 30+ people whilst encouraging new friendships, promoting independence and promoting opportunities. Lots of fun is had at the club with the breadth of calendar activities throughout the year.
Seaside Trips and Holidays
Sea side Trips and Holidays to Butlins are a key annual activity at the Ilford Group with meany of the Wednesday Club members attending.
For some of our members, these holidays are the only opportunity they get to go away during the summer. With the support of our volunteers, we help create memories, promote independence and, most of all, have lots of fun!
Family Disco's & BBQs
With music, entertainment and a few nibbles, our BBQs and Disco nights really do attract a large number of our members giving the whole family an opportunity to have some fun, meet new people and be supported by a community of people that understand the difficulties often faced in social occasions.
A Message From The Ilford Group Chair, Teresa McHale
WWelcome to the Ilford Group.
Our group has a long history of supporting disabled people and their families across Ilford, and I am very pleased to see our local community continuing to develop and grow.
The Wednesday Club is now an important part of the Ilford Group and provides a regular opportunity for members to come together for friendship, music, crafts, activities and, most importantly, good company. It has created a strong community of people who know and support one another, and we want to build on that by welcoming more disabled people, parents and carers from across the local area.
Throughout the year, our members can also enjoy a range of social activities including discos, BBQs, themed and movie nights, seaside trips, holidays and other events. Some are long-standing traditions while others develop from the ideas and interests of our members.
We are always happy to hear suggestions about what people would like to see the group offer in the future. Being part of the Ilford Group is not only about attending events. It is about friendship, knowing there are people around you who understand, and having somewhere to turn when you need information or support.
Through CFDN, our members and families can also access the Community Disability Advocate, who can provide independent support, advice and help when someone is experiencing difficulties or is unsure where to turn.
As Chair, I am very grateful to the committee and volunteers who give their time to make our activities possible. Their commitment allows us to continue providing a welcoming local community for our members and their families.
